Buccal Fat removal
What is Buccal Fat removal?
Buccal fat removal is a procedure to thin the cheek and remove the pad of fat within the cheek.
It is also called Cheek fat removal or Bichectomy. This procedure makes a rounder face or cheeks look more hollow and make the face look slimmer.
Why Buccal Fat removal?
Buccal fat removal surgery is a highly personalised procedure. It can address concerns for patients who are worried about full or chubby cheeks.
The volume of fat is different for different individuals. The buccal pad of fat is connected to the internal layers of fat and hence care should be taken to remove only the “excess” and not pull on it to remove more.
The Buccal fat pad removal makes a rounded face look slimmer and gaunt.
This has to be a very personal decision and one has to have realistic expectations about what is possible and what is not.
Your surgeon will help you decide what is the best procedure for you.
How is it done?
The procedure is a day care procedure and is done under local anaesthesia.
The cut is inside the mouth in the fold between the teeth and upper lip. The fat pad is excised under direct vision with care of haemostasis and avoiding to pull on the fat to remove too much.
Sutures are dissolving which don’t need to be removed.and takes about a week or two for the swelling to go down.
